Halite is commonly known as rock salt and it is our aim to create ‘salt of the earth wines’; wines that are very good and honest. The kind of wines that alight your senses and bring out the dance and joy, these are the kind of wines that we love and hope to share with you.

We work with winegrowers who farm organically and sustainably as these practices are important to our core beliefs and as such we follow suit in the winemaking process as well. Our winemaking style is to gently guide the fruit into becoming the best it can be by allowing it time to transition and flow, giving it care and respect.

The debut Light Dry range have been thoughtfully crafted with a style in mind- ‘salt of the earth’ light, dry and full of love. Guaranteed to deliver on flavour and joy.

Haidee

Haidee debuted in wine in 2010 starting at Vidal Estate, she turned up to an interview in an almost tuxedo and was still offered a job. Now looking back, Vidal felt like a right of passage for many winos in Hawkes Bay and it quickly led to a whirlwind of vintage hopping and drinking delicious wines all around the world. Fast forward 13 years, a wine degree, North Island Young Winemaker 2018, a couple relocations and a baby and she has come full circle landing back in Wairarapa/Wellington region which is actually her home roots. These experiences have set the foundations for a love of the detail and intricate beauty of wine, although she doesn’t mind a beer or two, queue in Ben….

Ben

From spinning spanners to counting yeast cells, he is a jack of all one may say. Born and bred in the Wairarapa, Ben hit the tools straight after college fixing anything from cars to buses. A few years down the track he met a young lass by the name of Haidee who threw him on a plane with her to travel the world and make wine. A couple of years and a vintage or four later, Ben’s interest and passion for fermented beverages grew into a lifestyle which led him into the brewing industry. 5 years on and a brewing diploma under his belt, he still has great desire to make delicious wine as he believes you need both to have a balanced diet.
