Halite Light Dry Red 2026
Pinot Noir and Sangiovese made across red, white and rosé styles from Martinborough and the Mangatahi Terraces. Made to be chilled.
Vineyard
The Pinot Noir comes from the biogro certified Grava vineyard, farmed by Alistair and Karla, just south of Martinborough. The vines are grown on the terraces of the Ruamahanga river providing alluvial deposits making silt loam soils.
The Sangiovese comes from the biogro certified Osawa Vineyard in the Mangatahi subregion of Hawkes Bay. Mangatahi is situated on the southern alluvial river terraces of the Ngaruroro river. The soils are sandy loam over alluvial gravels with ferrous content (‘red metals’).
Winemaking
A blend of Pinot Noir and Sangiovese made in a mix of red, white and rosé styles. All fruit is hand picked and fermented with indigenous yeasts in seasoned oak, with full malolactic fermentation. The different approaches bring together freshness, fruit and texture to create a light, vibrant red made for chilling.
Tasting Notes
Red apple, cherry and heirloom tomato on the nose. Bright and juicy, with a little crunch and a nicely tight, talc-y tannin structure. Fun, delicious and a little bit different, with just enough grip to handle a snag off the barbie.
Bottled in lightweight glass as part of my ongoing effort to reduce the environmental footprint of Halite.
Unfined. Unfiltered. Vegan friendly. May through harmless deposit in bottle.
